Why Heat-Treated Pallets?
For safety. To prevent the spread of invasive species and disease during shipping, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) developed a standard (ISPM-15) requiring wooden pallets to have their internal core temperature reach 133˚F for a minimum of 30 minutes. That way, all bugs, disease and mold will be killed before transport across country borders.
So, before exporting wood pallets, they must be heat-treated and stamped, which shows ISPM-15 compliance.
